Tech Article 9/20


  • Orbital Sciences Corp. sent its first cargo carrier to the International Space Center this week. This is the beginning of the space freight business.
  • Liftoff was at 10:58 am at NASA's launch facility at Wallops Island, Virginia.
  • Cygnus, the cargo carrier, will be at the space station until Sunday but it needs to do 3 days of testing in space before it gets to the space station.
  • Cygnus carried 1500 pounds of cargo this first time but can actually carry more than 4000 pounds into orbit.

Orbital Sciences launched its first unmanned Cygnus cargo ship into orbit from Wallops Island, Virginia, on Wednesday.
